Here We Come A Wassailing.

At the Robin Hood pub in Icklesham, East Sussex, Apple Wassailing, the ancient custom of blessing fruit trees is alive and well.

Traditionally occurring on twelth night, the celebration involves singing songs to the trees, making noise to awaken the tree spirits and drinking a type of mulled cider from a communal wassail bowl.

Bread or toast soaked in cider is hung on the trees, which in this instance was a small but beautifully decorated sapling. This event also included a bonfire and Morris dancing from the brilliant Winter Warmers & Sussex Junction Morris.
