From The Archives: May Day 2000 Protests
Here are some archive photos from The May Day Riots / Reclaim The Streets protests on May 1st in the year 2000, in Central London. 🌹💪 I guess Reclaim The Streets were a precursor of Extinction Rebellion.
May Day is both the Festival of Flowers and Workers Day - with origins in the Labour Union Movement which helped make 8 hour work days, weekends and annual holiday the norm.
Think a lot of people are fighting for a 4 day working week now (I’m down for that if it means more people can make art / gardens) ; but still so many many people around the world fighting for basic decent working rights; - it’s something I’ve always felt strongly about (I’ve worked since the age of 14 in one way or another, had good bosses & bad ones, good pay, bad pay, no pay etc ) so solidarity to workers around the world. “Nolite te Bastardes Carborundum.” ✊
