It was recently announced that Hastings will bid to become the UK’s 2028 Town of Culture. As a long-time resident, this feels like a really exciting opportunity to show, share and build on the creative and cultural vibrancy of the town.

Read MoreHere are some recent portraits of and for multi-disciplinary artist Vanessa Farinha and singer-songwriter, poet and performer Breezy Lee. Both were photographed in Hastings, with Breezy’s portrait session happening on a very cold day. This didn’t prevent her from submerging herself into the English Channel in a beautiful vintage slip dress and bright ribbon.
Vanessa’s photographs were taken at her home on a slightly warmer day. I thought that the environment somewhat evokes are recent work about council estates and architecture.

Read MoreWhen writer, broadcaster and fellow Hastings resident Michael Smith told me a few months ago about visiting St Clements caves, underneath the West Hill, it was quite a story. He’d visited the caves as part of a feature for the brilliant independent magazine Get Hastings. Fast forward a few months later and he and Beth King (the editor of the magazine) had come up with a whole 45 minute film inspired by the caves, but which delved further into the wider “esoteric underbelly” of the town.

Read MoreI have been loving the weather in Hastings this week. So incredibly changeable which means I’m not always prepared for the sudden downpours. I got stuck in one today which meant waiting under one of the solid but weather worn white bus-shelters on the promenade until it stopped. Except it didn’t. So I got my camera out and made the most of the seasonal drama. Those are the photos in the bottom row (except the middle one which is view from the office this evening).
