It was recently announced that Hastings will bid to become the UK’s 2028 Town of Culture. As a long-time resident, this feels like a really exciting opportunity to show, share and build on the creative and cultural vibrancy of the town.

Here are some recent portraits of and for multi-disciplinary artist Vanessa Farinha and singer-songwriter, poet and performer Breezy Lee. Both were photographed in Hastings, with Breezy’s portrait session happening on a very cold day. This didn’t prevent her from submerging herself into the English Channel in a beautiful vintage slip dress and bright ribbon.
Vanessa’s photographs were taken at her home on a slightly warmer day. I thought that the environment somewhat evokes are recent work about council estates and architecture.
